The Tao is so empty,
So hollow.
Yet somehow its usefulness is inexhaustible
It is so very deep
So very profound.
Like the source of everything.
It blunts the sharpest edges
Unties the knots
Softens the glare
It is so very deep
So tranquil
It seems to barely exist at all.
Its origin is unknown
It preceded the Gods themselves.
~ Tao Te Ching ~
MY COMMENTARY:
What Lau Tzu is talking about is an allusion to
The unspeakable source from which all things spring forth.
Many have tried to properly name it, but it cannot be named
In a manner that would truly describe anything
You can call it ‘God’ or ‘Universal Intelligence’ or ‘The Spirit’
Or the ‘Tao’ or anything else, but it MUST be directly experienced.
Even then it cannot be understood.
Once you directly experience it, through proper meditation,
You realize that you are equal to the source of your being;
That all things are equal to their source.
You realize that you are heir to the very power from which
All things have come forth and it is through that very power
That you have created the life you are living
The Source is not given to easily revealing its secrets
And to most it is impersonal, but to those who can
Arouse it into revealing its sentience
Untold wonders are waiting to be tapped and expressed.
You ‘see’ that all that we tend to take for granted is in fact
A wondrous and miraculous manifestation of the Tao
And we are all an equal part
of that wondrous and miraculous manifestation
So hollow.
Yet somehow its usefulness is inexhaustible
It is so very deep
So very profound.
Like the source of everything.
It blunts the sharpest edges
Unties the knots
Softens the glare
It is so very deep
